Lakers: Offseason Winners
This was the main event. Nico called the Lakers one of the clear winners of the offseason, and Brooklyn agreed. Losing LeBron hurts in name, but the money coming off the books finally let the front office build a real roster around Luka instead of scrambling for cheap fill-ins.
The key additions: Austin Reeves re-signed (taking a reported $15 million pay cut to make it work), Quinton Grimes brings proven 3-and-D value, Walker Kessler brings a career 8.3% block rate and elite pick-and-roll defense, Sandro Mamukelashvili (Mamu) posted a top-two net rating on the Raptors last season despite modest counting stats, and Colin Sexton adds the kind of relentless hustle the roster needed. The vision, per Nico, is essentially a Dallas Mavericks 2.0 — surround Luka with shooters, defenders, and rebounders and let him operate.
